Let Our Experience Treat You to Something Special
Experience Mt Pirongia through the eyes of those who know it best.
Our guided walks offer an opportunity to explore Te Pirongia o Te Aroaro o Kahu while learning about its ecology, history and ongoing restoration. Led by knowledgeable local guides, these walks connect people with the ngahere and the stories it holds, from native wildlife to cultural heritage and conservation success.
Each walk is designed to be informative, engaging and respectful of the maunga, providing a deeper understanding of why this place matters and how the community is working to protect it.
What to Expect
Guided walks vary in length and focus, but all include insights into native plants and birds, pest control and restoration work, and the cultural significance of Mt Pirongia. Walks may follow established tracks within Pirongia Forest Park and are paced to suit the group.
You will gain a behind-the-scenes look at restoration projects, learn how predator control supports native species, and hear stories that bring the landscape to life.
Who the Walks Are For
Guided walks are suitable for locals, visitors, schools, community groups and organisations wanting a meaningful experience on the maunga. Some walks are suitable for families, while others are better suited to adults with moderate fitness. We are happy to tailor walks for specific groups where possible.
Conservation with Care
All guided walks are run with conservation and safety as priorities. Group sizes are kept manageable, biosecurity practices are followed, and participants are encouraged to tread lightly to protect fragile ecosystems.
By taking part in a guided walk, you are directly supporting the ongoing restoration of Mt Pirongia and helping to build awareness of its ecological and cultural importance.
