PRS Operations - Kaitiakitanga

We care for, protect and enhance Mt Pirongia and its surrounds. Our work focuses on safeguarding the maunga’s natural ecosystems, cultural significance and recreational values so it can be enjoyed respectfully now and into the future.

We work in partnership with mana whenua, volunteers, local communities and other organisations to restore native bush, protect wildlife and support the long-term health of the mountain. This includes conservation projects, education and guided experiences that help people understand the unique environment and history of Mt Pirongia.

We support the maintenance and improvement of tracks and facilities to ensure safe access while minimising impact on sensitive areas. Through restoration, monitoring and advocacy, we promote responsible use of the maunga and a shared sense of guardianship.

Our work is guided by kaitiakitanga, collaboration and a deep respect for Mt Pirongia as a place of environmental, cultural and community value.
